Taberu@Little Tokyo ★★★

New Tokyo Comfort Food Restaurant in Little Tokyo. Only opened for 1.5 weeks. Great pricing and great quality. Love the Seafood Tartar, which reminds me of the Poached Egg w/ Sea Urchin & Salmon Roe at Raku Las Vegas. Nice cocktails. Cocktails also available in 60 oz pitcher. Signature Lemon Sour had nice Lemon Sorbet on top to mix with. We did have trouble with our bill. Had our bill corrected 3 times after checking it each time and finally got it corrected. Reservations available on OpenTable. Street parking at Little Tokyo is challenging at night, especially on weekend nights.

Shin-Sen-Gumi Yakitori@Gardena ★★★

My Go-To Restaurant for Yakitori. Authentic Food, Consistent Quality, and Reasonable Price. Everything was great. Miso Cheese with Crackers was nice and interesting but won't order again. Grilled Rice gets sold out a lot of times. Best to pair the Yakitori with Draft Beer to balance out the heat and dryness. Having the staff cheer "Kanpai" for your beer is fun. Walk in only. Arrive early to write down your name on the list. No wait around 5pm on a Saturday. Best seating is at the bar, where the food comes out right fresh from the grill to your plate. Loud & fun ambiance.

Chicken Thigh w/ Green Onion (Sauce) $2.95, Meatball $3.25
Here are my 3 tips:
1. Ask for the Free Cabbage
Off the menu, but you can request free cabbage salad (unlimited refills) to enjoy with your Yakitori. It balances your appetite with all the meat. The cabbage is mixed with tasty yuzu ponzu sauce. The catch is that the server sometimes forget about it, so you have to remind them again.

2. Don't Order All at Once
The food comes out pretty quickly. It's a good idea to split into ordering 2 times so that your food won't get stacked up and become cold.

3. The Reward
You can redeem $3 reward with every $50 you spend. Scan the QR code on your receipt to register your credit card and use the same credit card every time. The same reward system can be used at different Shin-Sen-Gumi locations in US.

Nanban-Kan@Sawtelle ★★★

Best Yakitori in Town. Best paired with beer. The winner of the night is definitely Potato - cooked to surprisingly crispy perfection and served with sour cream and spring onions. Quality is great but not as consistent as Shin-Sen-Gumi. Sometimes it’s not grilled long enough and sometimes it could get a bit too burnt, like our Black Cod. Keep in mind that most skewers came in 2, so it could get you full quickly. Better to split in 2-3 orders to pace out the serving time. Super friendly service (but also slow due to staff shortage). It is impossible to book because they almost never pick up the phone due to staff shortage. Best to call around 4:30pm. I also showed up in person to book. That worked too. They will also seat you if they have table available when you arrive early. Best seating is at the bar. Wine corkage is $15. Sake corkage $30.
